After years of assisting and awarding scholarships to aspiring young people, the Cupcake Foundation was established to encourage the youth to pursue higher education. The idea was brought up in a business meeting concerning how such a foundation would benefit the existing youth programs. In July of 2009, Cake Man Raven created the Cupcake Foundation with four young fellows from Brooklyn, NY; later to add honorary members from other states such as Texas, South Carolina, and New Jersey. The solo artist “Common” accepted the role as honorary chair of this foundation, which allowed Cake Man Raven to fund students from high school marching bands to camp in 2006.
Approaching Storm Marching Band in New York 2007 to a band camp at South Carolina State University, where he presently has three sophomore scholarship recipients on the Marching 101 Bulldog USCS Marching Band. Norfolk state has the first scholarship recipient from Brooklyn who is a five year senior. Currently enrolled in a dual degree program, Alex has an expected graduation date of May 2010. Derwin Bradley, who was the first recipient of the Evelyn Murrell Memorial scholarship from South Carolina in 1991, graduated in 1995. He now resides in Hawaii with his family and is currently in the United States Army. In 1998 he assisted the reclamation of the Kappa Alpha Psi Chapter in Providence, Rhode Island at Brown University where he pledged in the Fall of 1987.
Cake Man Raven sponsors the video photography for the community band Brooklyn Steppers to Washington, DC for inauguration, and to Bermuda to compete. Cake Man Raven also sponsored a trip to South Carolina and Myrtle Beach during the small town of Lynchburg’s Magnolia fest.
His immediate young men are three high school seniors. The original “Cupcake Boi” began working with Cake Man over seven years ago, the four original who have helped him create and present cakes all over the United States. Two Cake Team songs are also written . Facebook, Myspace, and Web pages is what they were able to do.
Needless to say for over 20 years Cakeman has been committed to admitting scholarships. It started as $250, now it’s $2,500 to $5,000 annually.
